Wall Esthetics: Installation & care

In order to make your Lalegno Wall Esthetics panels the added value your home deserves, it is important that they are installed correctly. Of course you want to keep the panels in top condition as long as possible and treat them with due care and diligence. If you follow a few rules for protection, cleaning and maintenance, you will enjoy your wonderful wood for longer.

Preparing the wall

  • Lalegno Wall Esthetics can be installed on various surfaces. For the best results, we recommend to attach to them on a flat surface. Flat walls are ideal, but not essential. A small degree of unevenness is acceptable.
  • Generally, the base surface should be clean and free of loose materials or debris. It must be completely dry and structurally suitable for supporting the weight of the wall panel and any backing.
  • Check that your walls are straight and level from ceiling to floor. Then mark a perpendicular line on the wall that you can use as a guide for a straight and level installation of the wall covering. Use a laser level to indicate the horizontal and vertical lines of your starting position.
  • Paint the background walls with a suitable matte black paint, so any openings which may appear afterwards become less noticeable.

Concrete walls

  • Newly constructed concrete walls need a minimum of 60 days drying time before they can be covered with Lalegno Wall Esthetics.
  • They have to be fully hardened, dry, smooth, level and free of any structural defects.
  • The maximum allowable height differences amount to 5mm in height over a length of 3000mm or 3mm at a radius of 1800mm.
  • Concrete walls must be free of paint, oil, adhesives, wax, grease, dirt, etc ... Any residue may be removed chemically or mechanically, but solvent based removers should not be used under any circumstances. The remains of such solvent residues can prevent the good adhesion of wood glues.
  • It is important to ensure a good bond between the adhesive, the concrete and the wall covering.
  • Lalegno Wall Esthetics panels should only be installed on walls without moisture problems.

Brickwork walls

  • Brickwork surfaces have to be structurally sound. That means that there are no loose parts or bricks.
  • Brickwork walls must be free of paint, oil, adhesives, wax, grease, dirt, etc ... Any residue may be removed chemically or mechanically, but solvent based removers should not be used under any circumstances.
  • An efficient adhesion and finish can be achieved for most surfaces that meet the general tolerances of masonry.

Wooden walls

  • Wooden walls should be firmly nailed down or screwed with countersunk nails and screws.
  • The wooden wall must be structurally sound, level and dry.
  • There should be no loose boards, vinyl, tiles, OSB or plywood.
  • The maximum allowable height differences amount to 5mm in height over a length of 3000mm or 3mm at a radius of 1800mm.
  • Before installation, the moisture content in the wall should be below 12%.
  • For fixing with adhesive the wooden wall should be free of paint, oil, existing adhesives, wax, grease, dirt, urethane, varnish etc.
  • Chipboard is not suitable for mounting with adhesive.

Other walls

  • Ceramic tiles and other hard surfaces which are dry, structurally sound, and flat, as described above, are suitable as a base for mounting of Lalegno Wall Esthetics panels.
  • As above, the surface should be smooth, flat, dry and free of paint, oil, existing adhesives, wax, grease and dirt.
  • Ceramic tiles have to be roughed in order to enhance the adhesion.
